How To Accept Payment By PayPal On Your Website
PayPal is one of the most popular online financial services
in the world. With over 325 million active users and 87.5% of all online buyers
using PayPal, it’s easy to see how much business you could be missing out on if
you didn’t have an option to accept
payments by PayPal on your website.
But how exactly do we add PayPal payment options to our website,
and how does it even work? Keep reading to find out.
How Does PayPal Work?
PayPal is an online financial service used to make payments
for items through a secure internet account. All you have to do is add your
debit card, credit card, or bank account details to the app/website and pay
using whichever cards you want when using PayPal.
PayPal is not just a payment service, but rather a ‘virtual
wallet’. This means that you can also receive money into your PayPal account
and add it as ‘balance’. This balance can be used to pay for other things you
want through PayPal and can also be transferred to your bank account.
PayPal business accounts are also available. They allow
organizations to make payments, accept payments, and also analyze sales
performance. Payments can be accepted online, in-store, over the phone, or via
email.
Optimize Your Website to Accept
Payment By PayPal
The PayPal Payments Standard service allows you to add a
secure payment button to your website to receive PayPal payments. It's optimized
for tablets and phones as well for a 360-degree financial solution.
PayPal Payments Standard also allows you to add taxes and
shipping fees to payments. Plus, you can track your inventory and examine sales
information by service or product.
The only way to accept payment by PayPal on a website is to have a PayPal
Premier or PayPal Business account. While there are no cancellation costs or
setup fees, you will be charged 2.9% plus $0.30 for every transaction. Charges
are higher if you're receiving payments from a foreign PayPal account.
How to Create a Payment Button?
Follow these steps to begin accepting PayPal payments on
your website. You’ll need to add a separate button for every product on your
website.
1.
Setup and login to your
PayPal business account.
2.
Make your way to the setup of your PayPal Checkout
experience page.
3.
Select the currency you
wish to use when accepting payments.
4.
Set the price for the
product or service being sold.
5.
Choose the layout you want:
a.
A horizontal layout is
designed to show the PayPal button next to the other buttons (like credit card
or debit card) wherever applicable.
b.
A vertical layout will show
a vertically stacked group of buttons where applicable.
6.
Choose a color scheme for
the button that matches your website theme.
7.
Decide on the button text.
8.
Repeat the process for
every product/service.
9.
Once this is done, you can
check out a preview of how the buttons will look on your website on both
desktop and mobile versions.
10.
Now that the buttons are
ready, click on the Copy Code
option.
11.
You can now paste the code
on the website where you want that code to appear.
12.
Repeat step 11 for every
page.
13.
Conduct a test by
completing a PayPal transaction.
14.
You’re ready to accept payments by PayPal
from your customers!
Changing Shipping Rates
When selling products online, shipment charges are a big
part of the consumer journey. You can edit these rates using the PayPal setup
options.
According to the official PayPal
website: “Shipping rates are automatically calculated using the shipping
methods you set in your PayPal account profile. U.S. merchants can override the
shipping methods and set shipping rates on a per transaction basis. Non-U.S.
merchants must first enable shipping method overrides in their account
profile.”
Here’s how U.S. sellers can change their shipping rates.
1.
Click View to check what shipping methods are currently set on your
profile.
2.
If you want to keep using
the default shipment methods, you can leave the use settings saved in your PayPal profile option checked.
3.
Then enter your product’s
weight in kg or lb.
4.
If you want to change your
shipping methods, select the Use
specific amount option and enter the amount you wish to charge for shipping.
5.
Some products don’t have
shipping charges, so you can enter “0.00” in its field.
If you’re a non-U.S. seller, here’s how to set shipping
methods.
1.
Click on Profile and then choose Profile and Settings.
2.
Select My selling tools.
3.
Scroll down to find the Shipping
My Items section. Find the Shipping
Calculations section and select Update.
4.
On this new page, locate
the override shipping methods per
transaction button and select Yes.
5.
You can now go back to your
button page and enter your shipping charges under the use specific amount option.
Why PayPal?
First of all, it's a payment solution trusted by consumers.
They know that their payments are secure and protected from scams. Add this to
the fact that PayPal is one of the most convenient payment methods.
Sellers are also given full protection by PayPal from scams
and other threats. For example, consider a situation where the buyer claims
that they’ve not received the goods they bought from you even though you sent
it to them. In this case, you can provide proof of shipment of delivery to
PayPal and keep the payment.
By deciding to accept payments by PayPal on your website, you open your
business to a whole new world of opportunities and sales growth. So, follow
this guide and get started today!
